Final reflection

All things considered, I have to say senior project was successful. I wish I could say it was a relaxing fun week but honestly it was a stressful grind for me trying to log hours for senior project while juggling my capstone project. This is now my fifth paper written in the last thirty six hours with a total page tally of 18 if you count these three. I do not mean to sound negative when writing this though. I was able to learn a lot from the experience both from admissions and from my capstone. And to add from that I learned how difficult being an event coordinator can be especially at proctor.  Welp, we finished our first week of senior project. It was a roller coaster ride for us as what we anticipated when signing up for this project was not what it boiled down to be. Back in early spring we created “Senior Baganza” in hopes of getting students out at night having fun on campus. We wanted to do water wars, basketball tournaments, bonfires and much more. As we spent the f...

Day twelve

We started today off with an assembly announcement where Aidan and mitchy declared the green key leaders for next year. After that we went to meet with Alicia from eleven to one. We worked on things to display at express fest. We created some admissions fliers that would be great for fairs and large events like that where it can be handed out.  Todays hours five  Total fifty two Sorry My phone is being weird and I can’t get to the numbers part of my keyboard.

Week 2 reflection

Our second week of senior project went a lot smoother than the first. After teaming up with Alicia our group has been off and running. I will say working with Alicia has worked well for me especially for trying to multitask between senior projects and my capstone project. I have had tremendous hours of work on this capstone project and a large part of me wishes I had just made that my senior project but it is okay because I am getting through it and getting both where they need to be. Alicia has been very helpful though in the sense that she understands there are times I will be free and times I won’t and she makes an effort to figure out when those times are rather than just saying I need you here now, with the assumption that I have nothing better to do. On top of that our project has turned out to be quite enjoyable as well as beneficial. Alicia does a good job of giving us tasks that are suited well for what we are capable of doing in terms of admissions. I say this because ...

Day 11

We had a very good day yesterday. We started it off with a group combining trip to Tuckers with Nora and Alicia. We had a great team meeting about how our projects have been going and other admissions pressing topics. The main goal at lunch was to talk about the green key leaders. After lunch we came back to campus for a regroup in the back of the admissions building. We sat down and narrowed a list from 31 applicants to create this years green key leaders. We then finished off the day working on a little facts sheet about proctor to give to both tour guides and tourists.  Hours for the day: 5 Total: 47

day 10

With the end of baseball season I woke up ready to attack the day with a workout. I met with Botty and Mitchy and we cranked out a good pump. During the workout we received texts from Alicia asking when we would be coming to admissions because she had a lot for us today. It started with her teaching us how to read a neuropsychological evaluation. I can’t say I actually learned much but I tried my hardest to figure it out. We followed that up by looking at what Alecia looks at when evaluating an applicant. We also compared proctors process to other schools processes and the advantages and disadvantages to how we do it. We then ended the day with two tours which were actually more enjoyable due to the tourists entueusiam.  Hours: 5 Project total 42

Day 9

We started the day off with a 10 am tour. We showed the incoming student and his family around until 11:30. We spent the rest of our time before our game and match working on cleaning up the brochures for admissions. After our game we weren’t satisfied with the hours we kicked out so we spend another hour before Aidan’s play rehearsal working on a proposal for the green key party.  Total hours 4

Day 8

We started off today at 10 with various student outreach projects. We created a google form for incoming students to fill out and use to meet other students. This lasted until noon. Then at 1 we picked it up again with a tour. Than ran until 2:30. We ended the day with another 45 minutes of discussing the green key party.   hours 5 Total 32

Day 7

We started today off at 9 to go over some thing with Alicia before a 9:30 tour with an incoming student. It was a stranger tour out of the ones we have given so far because it was an 8th grader being toured by 3 seniors and there was not much common ground to talk about with either him or his mother. That tour wrapped up around 10:30 and we answered questions until 11. We helped for the next 30 minutes with organization stuff in the admissions office. We spent the afternoon running errands and working on the Instagram page from 12-3

Weekly Reflection

Welp, we finished our first week of senior project. It was a roller coaster ride for us as what we anticipated when signing up for this project was not what it boiled down to be. Back in early spring we created “Senior Baganza” in hopes of getting students out at night having fun on campus. We wanted to do water wars, basketball tournaments, bonfires and much more. As we spent the first couple days of the project figuring out which events we wanted to put on we quickly realized that we were up against much bigger obstacles than we had mapped out. First of all, as senior event coordinators, it is very tough to get hours at a boarding school when events can only be put on at night. As any who reads this blog is probably aware of, students at proctor have very busy schedules and very little free time to be outside the dorm having fun. As I said we spend most of the first day trying to come up with ideas and plans for how to do our project. It was easy coming up with things we wanted...

Day 6

On this Saturday morning we had an early wake up where we went to give a tour to a French Canadian hockey team from Quebec at 8:30 this morning. It was an interesting tour given that their English was very broken. We did that until 10 and continued to answer questions and talk to them until 10:30. After that we had to run to Jabobs of course and come back to work on the admissions Instagram page until 12:30 which is when our day ended to head off for a baseball game.

Day 5

Yesterday began and we were off to the races with Alecia. We began at 9:30 with a conversation of things we can do for her from stacking folders giving tours running Instagram and much more. That lasted until around noon. Then we hit Jacob’s. At 12:30 we picked up again for an hour working on the Instagram page Alecia wants us to do which has to do with getting newly accepted students on the page to see each other. We then gave a tour at 1:30 to 3 and capped the day off at that.  9:30- 12 12:30-3 Total: 5 hours

Day 4

Yesterday was a very interesting day for the proctor doctors. We woke up with the intentions to attack the day with some lunch dodgeball followed by some activity that night. After a bit of discussing lunch dodgeball we realized the reoccurring theme that kids would not be able to attend because they would be eating lunch and were unlikely to get enough people for two teams. Followed by this discussion we realized our senior project just isn't going to work with our schedules since our free time is when the rest of the school is free and our busy time for sports, play practice, etc keep falling on prime times to put on event. We then considered raking in hours on the weekends but that too would be tough. After talking to Kelly Alicia and Gabrielle we decided we would switch up our project to be Alicias interns as we were nervous we would not get all our hours due to the restricted time in our schedules to actually put on successful events. Since it was a switch up day we did not d...

Day 3

Today was a lighter day of work due to time constraints and commitments. With the understanding that there was a mixture of baseball games, golf matches and play practice following that we were up against the wall with logging decent hours. After Botti and Mitch got a workout in and I made strides with my capstone we met at 11 to figure out what to do today. We came up with the plan to make a mini golf course out of whatever makeshift obstacles we could get our hands on. Trish's equipment room was the first idea which came to a screeching halt when we asked if we could barrow equipment and she replied saying we needed to clear it with the maintenance crew. Which Is now a continuous uphill battle trying to get a hold of somebody in maintence to get clearance to have a mini golf course somewhere.  Today's hours 11-1 total hours 11

Day Number 2

Yesterday for me was a little more capstone heavy with work rather than event coordinating. I arrived to School and began working on my capstone up until 10. They had begun the meeting at 9:30 but I wanted to finish up my other work so I lagged a bit. We spent this time coming up with rules and things to consider for the games we came up with yesterday. This was with hopes to make the games flow smoother. Then after lunch we met again from 12-2:30 where mitchell has been working to create a website where we can track all the work we are doing. We have ideas to track batting average if we do wiffleball or kickball and to have teams records accessible and fun stuff of that nature all up for people to view. We hope in doing this it will make people a little more interested in the project rather than just feeling like they are showing up to play kickball on a Tuesday afternoon. Hours- 9:30-11:30               12-2:30 Total project hours: 9

Day 1 Monday 5/9

Today was the beginning of senior Project. Mitchy, Botti and I began working at 10 am and commenced brainstorming at the rulon fire pit. By 12 we had a plan of future events we could choose from to put on for the school. Our first idea was to do a fire pit with s’mores outside slocumb after dinner. We ended up hanging out there for a couple hours until the sun started to go down. There was a dozen or so students that participated but was a good start for our first day as most of our project require planning of more than 1 day so it was a good one to scrap together for that first night.  Hours: 10-12 am 6:30- 8:30 pm
